January 12th Bulldog Bulletin

Dear Bulldog families,

Happy New Year 2024 and welcome back!

Please, see the attached Bulldog Bulletin, January 2024 calendar and Richmond School District Homestay program.

Today is our first Hot Lunch of the New Year, it is Sushi Lovers. Thank you to our wonderful PAC for organizing a variety of hot lunches this year.

This has been a cold end to the week, thank you for helping your children dress warmly to brave the cold weather.

Monday, January 15th is Black Excellence Day.  Black Excellence Day started from the movement of Black Shirt Day in early 2021. In consultation with various community members including the Centre of Israel and Jewish Affairs, the term “Black Shirt” was identified as causing harm and trauma for survivors of the Holocaust. Recognizing this, the movement Black Excellence Day was created in its place. The term “Black Excellence” was born out of the civil rights movement in the 1960s and honours great civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who was born on January 15, 1929.

Reconciliation, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion with Richmond School District

Richmond parents and caregivers are invited to a Zoom webinar on REDI – Reconciliation, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. Destine Lord will be presenting two repeat Zoom webinars on January 25 and January 30. This initial 60-minute session is designed to help participants understand the district’s commitment to Reconciliation, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and the values and language that inform our practices in schools. Destine will draw on the district’s strategic plan to drive the conversation and make connections between the plan, the district’s vision, and introductory concepts of anti-oppression. By building understanding, it is our hope to provide parents and caregivers help to support their learners as they move between home and school and back again. There will be future sessions that will take a deeper dive into REDI concepts. Please see the attached flyer for registration details. Please note the dates are January 25 at  7 p.m. and January 30 at 11 a.m. Registration is required.

We wish you all a very Happy New Year and keep warm this weekend,

Regina Vosahlo and Kevin Vines
