September 13th Bulldog Bulletin

Dear Diefenbaker families,

This has been a fabulous first week of start-up in our classes. We thank you for your amazing support and for staying calm, positive and open to new learning and friendship possibilities as your children take time to settle in their new classes.

Please, the attached Bulldog Bulletin, PAC newsletter and Picnic in the Park information.

School forms

I am writing to let you know that as every year at this time a multitude of forms will be sent home with your child.  Please, once you review them and fill them out, hand them in as soon as you can to your classroom teacher or the main office.  We appreciate it.

Affordability Fund and Feeding Futures fund

A reminder that the Provincial Government once again announced the Student and Family Affordability Fund. This fund is designed to assist families who require financial assistance with school-related costs such as school and course fees, workbooks, specialty supplies, field trips and other school-related charges and costs.

Feeding Futures is a fund that we receive from the Ministry of Education to assist families with snacks, lunches and any meal-related costs.  We keep the snacks and lunches in our community fridge across from the office for any student who needs it during the school day.

Please reach out to Ms. Vosahlo at rvosahlo@sd38.bc.ca if you could benefit from these funds. The request will be always kept in confidence.

Professional Learning Day on Friday

Friday, September 20th is the Professional Learning Day for all staff in our district.  Students will not be in session.

Terry Fox Assembly & School Run

You are most welcome to join us at our Terry Fox assembly and school run at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, September 18th. We will meet in the gym and then head outside on the paved track on the field to run for Terry and his cause, rain or shine.

We welcome your Terry Fox Run donations on SchoolCashOnline.com. We have gone cashless as a school.  Of course, we will not turn away coins on the day of the school run but prefer that you donate online. We are always grateful for your generosity.

Meet the Teacher

We will have two sessions for you to choose from in your child’s class. Both are the same session. First one will run from 5 to 5:20 pm and the second one will be from 5:20 to 5:40 pm.  We will then gather in the gym at 5:45 to 6 pm for all staff introductions. Outside doors by the office will be open.

Grade 3 to 7 Cross Country Running club

Grade 3s and intermediate students are welcome to join our school cross country club.  We are starting on Monday, September 16th on the back field, rain or shine.  Please, pick up a green parent permission form in the main office if you do not already have one.  Hand it in to the office when signed.

Garry Point Fun Run for Grades 1 to 7 is on Tuesday, October 22nd this year (same day as Grade 6 Camp Summit).

Picnic in the Park on Friday, September 27th from 4 pm to 7 pm

Please, see the attached PAC newsletter and Picnic in the Park details. Information on the event was sent home with your child last week.  We still need adult volunteers!  Please, sign up to volunteer at this popular event for our school at the link on the forms.

We wish you all a restful weekend,

Ms. Vosahlo and Mme Stevenson
