Winter concert: Stories by the Fire

Our school learning story for this year was the focus of our Winter Concert.  Classes integrated literacy in creative ways for their performances.  Students composed plays, read books and sang seasonal and cultural songs. The concert was a huge hit with students and families this year!!

 

Grade Group Ideas

K-1:

Choral reading or song adaptation of a picture book.

Reader’s Theatre using simple winter-themed poems.

Movement piece or dance retelling a seasonal story.

Grades 2-3:

Storytelling with sound effects – retelling folk tales or winter stories.

Poem dramatization.

Song adaptation of a fable or seasonal narrative.

Grades 4–5:

Original winter stories written and narrated by students, accompanied by visuals.

Reading of excerpts from children's literature.

Mini skits promoting favourite reads.

Grades 6–7:

Spoken word or slam poetry pieces inspired by winter themes.

Small group scenes from culturally diverse winter stories.

Musical performance based on a literacy unit.
