Buttons for Peace
During the month of November of 2023, the students in Mme Lupini’s Grade 7 Late French Immersion class in John Diefenbaker Elementary School discussed ways they can show kindness in our community.
In their ADST (Applied Design, Skill and Technology) class they talked about designing buttons for Remembrance Day as well as to show their stand for peace, kindness and diversity in Canada. Students then worked on the details of their designs that were then transferred onto buttons.
The following week, students set up stations outside at recesses to exchange their unique buttons for cans to be donated to the Richmond Food Bank. Our students and families enthusiastically and generously responded to the challenge. Over five full boxes of non-perishable foods were collected for the food bank. Moreover, by the end of November most students and staff were proudly wearing their buttons for peace.
